Finger is pointing at the board

In a week where our chief executive publicly questioned the team performance at Wolves (pity that approach was not taken with our last manager) and then warned of future players sales (who?) I can sense a growing dissatisfaction with our board and chief executive which is getting stronger and stronger.

As fans you see, we can not understand why we are in such a mess when we have sold numerous plots of land, had £25m thanks to Sky plus numerous hand outs from the Smiths and Turners! On the back of this is the continued support of the fans that is both staggering and quite unique amongst Championship sides. When the likes of Southampton and Crystal Palace have seen their gates dwindle, we continue to buy the ambitious but prudent line, season in season out!

Now however, more and more people are questioning whether we have the right people in charge and why it is we fail to compete with clubs half our size! We are beginning to wonder if too much effort is made on hotel schemes, travel offers and insurance and not enough on providing sufficient funds to strengthen a weak City squad. I know that you need these commercial activities to fund the team but we are seeing no improvement in that team!

Time and time again, we've watched our best players walk out with the usual “if they are unhappy…” or “it's the get out clause..” which would be fine, if it was not for the fact that it always appears to have taken the club by surprise and that we have no other plans to put in place when these things happen. There is a distinct feeling of amateurism and naivety when it comes to player dealings. You get the impression that clubs look at us and think they can unsettle our squad and then walk away with a bargain!

I also think that the fans don't believe the ambitious but prudent line anymore. We get a feeling that as long as we turn up week in week out then everything is fine and the board are happy. Also, we can't understand why as a club we would not invite or encourage outside investment even if it's from a foreign source. On one hand we state we need to find a £7m shortfall and then on the other hand dismiss any notions of “Johnny Foreigner” getting his hands on us! Surely someone like Milan Mandaric would be welcomed at City and surely they could do no worse than we are currently?

So whilst Mr Doncaster may wish to throw the spotlight on our beleaguered manager, we as fans are looking at our board more and more.
