The man I'm going to kick off with is simply a machine, City's new tough guy.
The sheer amount of ground he covers per game is ridiculously impressive – not forgetting that he also provides some really effective competition in midfield.
Tom Trybull is playing so well I’m actually worried he’ll be poached now. In my opinion, getting him on a long-term deal should be at the top of Stuart Webber’s to do list.
It’s no secret he’s not been able to settle at a club yet during his career, but I firmly believe he could finally settle at Carrow Road, especially given how much value he gives the team, ensuring the safety is in place so the likes of Josh Murphy and James Maddison can bomb forward and commit with the ball.
The midfield warrior has won an average four tackles per game so far during his City career, higher than any other player in the team. He also tops the charts in terms of interceptions, making on average three per game. You can get a sense that we’re now a tough team to break down and more effective off the ball than we were throughout the whole of last season.
We’ve seen more Maddison magic and I honestly feel like the recent free-kick crackers are just a taste of what is to come. Yes, it’s a long season and I’m sure we’ll see some peaks and troughs in his performances, but, my word, that man is absolutely on fire right now. He is showing that edge and confidence that will be vital to City as we try to break teams down. However, I feel so connected with the ways of Daniel Farke I almost feel slightly guilty praising him!
That was why Reading was particularly impressive. Not just because of the result but because as soon we conceded, we sat tight and weathered the storm tremendously well for a good 20 minutes when they dominated possession. Before the Farke Life era, I’m certain we’d have lost that game.
Progress has already been made and you can now finally start to both understand and appreciate why Farke had such an impressive defensive record with his Borussia Dortmund B side last season. Kudos to Farke, who has also turned Timm Klose back into the player we had when we first signed him in the Premier League, an animal at the back that wins near-on everything in the air, coupled, of course, with the motivation of getting back into the Switzerland side.
And we’re yet to see Alex Pritchard take centre stage this season – the man that will create nothing less than carnage for opposition defences in this league. Pritchard assisting Nelson Oliveira is something we will get used to seeing regularly. I personally believe City fans should see that glass half-full right now, especially given who we’re up against next too!
Hull City will provide another Burton-esque test for our boys in yellow today. Let’s be frank, they’ve had a pretty shoddy start to their campaign, not helped by the fact they were hot favourites to bounce straight up again this season. Hull have managed to win only one of their last six league fixtures. They did, however, beat Birmingham 6-1 last time out. But then again, Birmingham are well, Birmingham.
I can see nothing but a victory for Norwich City today. We have quality in abundance and a newly-improved spirit and determination to get results over the line. Nelson is back too, which will certainly make us more potent going forwards. Enjoy the game.
On The Ball, City!
