Reading have submitted a bid for out of favour Norwich City striker Jordan Hugill, according to reports.

Journalist and transfer expert Pete O'Rourke has claimed for Football Insider that the Berkshire side are chasing a move for the Canaries attacker, who is out of contract this summer and has struggled for game time this season.

The 30-year-old is yet to start a league game this term, featuring 10 times in all competitions and scoring just once. He's been forced to play second fiddle to the likes of Teemu Pukki and Josh Sargent throughout his time at Carrow Road, spending last season out on loan with West Brom and Cardiff City.

With Adam Idah now returning to fitness and starting three consecutive games he's fallen even further down the pecking order, meaning a move away could be sanctioned this month.

Hugill signed from West Ham United in the summer of 2020 for a fee of £2.6million that could rise to £5million. He made 34 appearances in his first season at the club, scoring five goals as Norwich won the Championship title and were promoted to the Premier League.

The following summer it was decided that he wouldn't be a part of their push for top flight survival, however, and he was loaned to Valerian Ismael's West Brom side, where he played 20 times and scored one goal.

After attempts to terminate the loan it was eventually cut short to allow Hugill to move to South Wales with Cardiff, where under former Norwich striker Steve Morison he registered four goals and two assists in 18 games.

The Canaries were understood to be open to another exit this summer while Dean Smith was at the helm, but a last-minute injury to Idah left them short of attacking options as the transfer window drew to a close.

Before joining Norwich, Hugill saw success with Preston North End, their opponents this weekend, earning him a £10million move to the Hammers. He made just three appearances in claret and blue, however, spending time on loan with London rivals QPR and boyhood club Middlesbrough.
