Angus Gunn believes teething issues are to be expected at Norwich City as they adjust to Johannes Hoff Thorup's methods.
The Canaries concluded their Championship preparations with a 3-1 defeat to Bundesliga side St Pauli on Saturday, a result and performance which has caused concern among factions of their support ahead of next Saturday's league opener against Oxford United.
In a display littered with errors, Norwich were punished as the German side raced into a 3-0 lead prior to half-time. They did regain some composure when Jonny Rowe reduced the deficit ahead the break.
Patience has been a buzzword used throughout this pre-season campaign, and Gunn believes mistakes are to be expected in the early stages of their work after a change in approach.
"We're playing differently now. We're trying to play out from the back, and although we've done that previously, the structure is a little bit different for the players," the Scottish international said.
"Unfortunately, there were a few silly errors in there, probably not just those two - they were the ones that got punished - but there were more in the game as well. We need to eradicate that before the first game.
"We'll be going into training next week. We're fully determined to work on that and make sure we turn up and are ready to go for the first game of the season."
Norwich conclude pre-season having won only one of their six friendly matches, a 3-0 victory over Northampton.
Whilst pre-season is never primarily about results, both Gunn and Thorup bemoaned their inability to win more matches over this period - but City's number one is confident they will find their groove as the campaign progresses.
"Other than the first one, they've all been games against quality teams. We're disappointed that we haven't picked up more wins, but there have been signs in the last few that we're getting there.
"It's been a tough pre-season physically, and there's been a lot of travel - we only came back last night from Austria. It's been a really good week over there. I feel like we've bonded off the pitch.
"Obviously, mistakes happen in football. It's our job to back our teammates up and try to protect them. They've managed to score a couple of goals today where we should have done better. Hopefully, we can eradicate those and have a good start to the season."
