Norwich City legend Teemu Pukki plundered four goals in Minnesota's 5-2 MLS romp over LA Galaxy to revive their play-off hopes.

Pukki has now notched 10 in 15 appearances since leaving Carrow Road in the summer, after an emotional final day send-off against Blackpool, to try his luck in America.

The Finnish international, who notched 88 goals in 210 appearances for the Canaries in a decorated spell that saw him win two Championship titles, is now making his mark in the MLS.

Pukki put the Loons in front just before the interval on Saturday night before a further three goal burst to keep Minnesota in the play-off hunt in the Western Conference.

Galaxy's line up featured ex-Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp and one-time Bayern Munich and Juventus midfielder Douglas Costa.

Pukki rejected the chance to extend his Carrow Road stay, and had interest from Germany and Turkey, but wanted a new 'football adventure' before finishing his club career back in his native Finland.

The 33-year-old now returns to Europe for Finland's upcoming Euro2024 qualifiers against Slovenia and Kazakhstan after a landmark game in his long career.

“Probably my youth. I don’t think in a professional career have I scored four, not that I can remember,” said Pukki, quoted on the official MLS site. "There’s still a chance (of the play-offs). For now, my focus will be with the national team starting (Sunday). But, after that, there’s one last final. The only thing we can do is win that game and see where we come from there.”

Minnesota sit in 11th but only one point out of the play-off picture in the Western Conference ahead of a regular season finale against Sporting KC on October 22.

The result came just a couple of days after Minnesota confirmed the exit of previous head coach Adrian Heath. Assistant coach Sean McAuley will be in interim charge for the rest of the MLS season.

Norwich recruited Ashley Barnes from Championship winners Burnley following Pukki's close-season exit, to bolster a frontline that featured Josh Sargent and Adam Idah. But after a promising start to the new season, injuries to both Sargent and Barnes have seen the Canaries labour to one win in the last six.

Nottingham Forest loan striker Hwang Ui-Jo joined the club in the closing hours of the summer transfer window.

The Canaries went into the latest international break seventh, with 17 points from 11 games.
