Norwich City striker Adam Idah couldn’t stop the Republic of Ireland’s slide to a 1-0 loss against the Netherlands.

The 22-year-old replaced Cardiff forward Callum Robinson, both of whom scored in the Canaries’ 3-2 win in South Wales last weekend, at half time before being booked in the 90th minute.

He couldn’t find a way back into the game for the Boys in Green after Wout Weghorst opened the scoring in the 11th minute, however, rounding off their Euro 2024 qualification campaign with a sixth defeat in eight games.

That means they'll finish fourth in Group B, at least six points behind Dimitris Giannoulis' Greece. The City left-back was an unused substitute in their 2-0 friendly win over New Zealand, Giannis Konstantelias and Giorgos Giakoumakis, who was once linked with Norwich, on target.

Idah’s club-mate Shane Duffy was an unused substitute for Stephen Kenny, who chose to bench the 31-year-old after his poor form for the Norfolk side. Duffy missed that Norwich win over Cardiff due to suspension, with summer signing Danny Batth impressing in his stead.

Elsewhere, City loan export Jonathan Tomkinson featured for the USA’s under-23s as they drew 1-1 with Iraq. He's been a regular at centre-back as they attempt to qualify for next summer's Olympics in Paris next summer.

He’s currently playing his club football with League Two Bradford City, having secured a switch to the Bantams late on transfer deadline day. He's only played twice in Yorkshire, however, with injury and managerial changes making for a tumultuous spell thus far.

Jonathan Rowe and Marcelino Nunez were expected to play for their nations, but missed out due to injury and suspension respectively, It's hoped the former will be back in time to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, after he returned to Colney early for assessment.

Tony Springett was on the bench for Ireland's under-21s as they travelled to Norway for a Euros qualification match, but didn't come off it as the Boys in Green attempted to rescue a draw. They were ultimately unsuccessful, losing 3-2 thanks to Lasse Selvag Nordas' winner.
