David Wagner knew that Hwang Ui-Jo's qualities would shine through at Norwich City as he continued his progress with the winning goal against QPR.

The South Korean international scored the only goal of the game against the Rs to give the Canaries all three points and make it back-to-back wins to ease the pressure on Wagner.

It ends a difficult personal week for the on-loan striker, who is currently at the centre of a sex scandal in his home country after claims he secretly filmed women and shared the footage.

He is being investigated by police and was recently questioned by cybercrime officers in Seoul. The on-loan Nottingham Forest striker denies all charges against him and has brought a counter claim for defamation and blackmail against his accuser.

Wagner made his decision based on football and is delighted with the progress the experienced South Korean forward is making with the Canaries.

"He is a very good footballer in terms of his technique, work ethic and game understanding. You make more than 50 appearances for South Korea for a reason.

"He has settled in well and has a better understanding of what we want. It was a difficult international break for some reasons, but they are also difficult because of the flights and climatic changes, which is why he had to go off after 60 minutes.

"Privately, it has not been super easy for him. His head is with us and football - anything else we have to see how it continues. He is in good hands with the lawyers who support him and this is something that is important.

"We are happy that he scored. We thought the game understanding from him and Barnesy together would be good for us."

Wagner elected to select Hwang ahead of in-form striker Adam Idah, who scored the winning goal in their epic 3-2 comeback win at Cardiff before the international break.

With experienced forward Ashley Barnes returning from a lengthy injury absence, Wagner explains why he opted for Hwang to lead the line.

"It was difficult because Adam Idah played quite well for Ireland and scored against Cardiff as well. I was clear that I wanted to have Barnesy back on the pitch and then it was a decision about which guy I wanted to pick today.

"Adam has shown great skills when he comes on as a sub and is the highest goalscorer as a sub in the Championship at the minute. This was the reason we picked Ui-Jo."
