David Wagner is refusing to let this weekend's East Anglian Derby distract Norwich City from the task at hand against struggling Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.

For some supporters, Saturday's trip to Portman Road is already at the forefront of their mind as City head to Suffolk hoping to keep their long unbeaten record intact.

But first, they host Danny Rohl's side at Carrow Road on Wednesday evening, knowing a victory will take them closer to the Championship's top six mix.

Sheffield Wednesday have won consecutive Championship matches against Blackburn and Stoke, with Norwich hoping to return to winning ways after a frustrating goalless stalemate with Preston.

The game against Ipswich Town hasn't been a topic of conversation inside Colney, according to Wagner, as he calls for focus ahead of the clash with the Owls.

"I don't like to be disrespectful, but for me, it is all about tomorrow's game against Sheffield Wednesday. All my thoughts and all our energy and focus go into this game.

"We would like to win tomorrow, and we need everyone who backs us, who is energetic, who creates the atmosphere in the stands and on the pitch. Then, afterwards, we can speak about this.

"No one in the dressing room or inside Colney is speaking about Saturday. Everyone knows how important tomorrow is, and it makes no sense to waste even one per cent of energy or focus on something that isn't in front of us.

"For us, it's only Sheffield Wednesday. They deserve our respect and our full respect. I know how difficult a task it is. Let's do the first step and make sure we do it proper."

Norwich play on Wednesday night and then again at 12.30pm on Saturday - a tight turnaround that could cause fatigue within the squad.

Wagner won't be making any calls to rest players ahead of the East Anglian Derby, with none of their injured players set to return before that trip to Portman Road.

"We take it game by game. We have to be focused first on tomorrow and make sure we are clear in our heads and fresh in our legs.

"We want to be very intense and have a lot of energy on the grass from the first whistle," Wagner said at his pre-match press conference.

"A floodlight game at Carrow Road - nothing is better than this. After this, we will look to the weekend."
