Norwich City boss David Wagner is relaxed over the prospect of Jon Rowe’s latest sparkling solo goal at Hull City triggering fresh transfer window speculation.

Rowe’s 11th Championship goal of a breakthrough season set the Canaries on their way to a 2-1 Friday night win on Humberside.

City are believed to have made Rowe’s camp two contract offers during on-going negotiations, before Wagner revealed last month the parties will shelve discussions on his Carrow Road future until the summer.

But the England Under-21 international continues to be linked with Premier League interest this month.

“I have no concern that there are any problems (to keep him in January),” said Wagner. “Obviously the goal was great. This is what he can produce. We've seen this a few times this season so far.

"I liked it a lot but what I liked as well was how he worked, and how he defended - the effort and the shift which he put in defensively for the team, as well as tactically very smart. He really supported his full-back to not get broken down in the wide areas.”

Rowe may have grabbed the Hull headlines, but Wagner was keen to single out another key quartet for praise.

Angus Gunn’s second half supershow, the resolute central defensive pairing of captain Kenny McLean and Shane Duffy, and ‘warrior’ Ashley Barnes were all crucial for the German.

“We had some top individual performances,” said the City boss. “If I see what Gunny has done, our centre backs and Ashley Barnes as well. Barnesy fought like a warrior, for every inch, but this is exactly what you have to do in a game like this.

"To be totally honest, sometimes I love games like this, wins like this, where you have to dig in and where you have to fight and really have to put a shift in, more than the comfortable wins where you show a lot of composure. Sometimes wins like this I like more, and can give you even a bigger boost.

“We said if we want to compete for the play-offs we have to drastically improve out goals against record. I think it was a fantastic fighting and working performance in how they defended the box. It was good that they were able to show how tight this dressing room is, and how really hard they like to work for each other.

"And to be fair, first half, Borja Sainz had the biggest chance of the game. Second half, we had with Onel (Hernandez) and Adam Idah two great late opportunities as well. I'm absolutely over the moon that they got the reward with the three points is just great.”
