Norwich City is prepared to sanction Adam Idah’s loan move to Serie A strugglers Verona if they can find a replacement ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Italians want a loan with a buy option in the region of €3.5m for the Republic of Ireland international, who is out of favour under David Wagner.

US international Josh Sargent’s return from injury has pushed the 22-year-old down the pecking order, behind the American and Ashley Barnes, for the Championship run-in.

Idah now wants regular game time, after only 31 league starts in 99 appearances for the club since making his full Premier League debut at Manchester United in January 2020.

City were open to a loan move for the Irishman at the start of this window, until fellow striker Hwang Ui-Jo had to cut short his spell due to a hamstring issue.

The South Korean international will not return to Carrow Road, contrary to reports over the weekend.

The Nottingham Forest forward has recently been in his homeland, after he was summoned for questioning as part of on going investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct in his private life.

The club's sporting director, Ben Knapper, has until 11pm on Thursday to source another forward on loan to take Idah’s place in the squad.

Verona’s Serie A rivals, Genoa, held an interest in the Cork-bred attacker earlier in the window but it is the ‘Yellow and Blues’ who made a move ahead of last weekend’s Liverpool FA Cup tie.

Idah is only 12 months into a five year deal he signed last February, but is believed to be frustrated at a lack of first team starts under Wagner.

The German, speaking at Anfield, was adamant City could not leave themselves short in the striker department when pressed on those initial reports of Italian interest.

"We are not super strong in numbers in general for the squad and on the striker position as well so I can't see this happening," he said Wagner. "But you know as well as I do that everything I tell you today might not stay the same in the next four days.

“I don't expect anything, but the transfer window is sometimes very crazy."
