David Wagner has reiterated the importance of unity as Norwich City return to Carrow Road to face Cardiff on Saturday.

After a fractious night in midweek despite their 4-2 win over Watford, all sides of the debate will be looking to come together as the descent of the season continues with Norwich hovering just outside the top six.

Boos and chants of 'you don't know what you're doing' were aimed at Wagner on Tuesday night after a double substitution of Josh Sargent and Onel Hernandez - both of whom were carrying knocks - and saw the City boss fire back towards a small section of supporters, saying they should 'stay at home'.

That atmosphere led to bemusement among the first-team squad and soured the mood on a night that saw Norwich return to the play-off positions for the first time since September, if only for 24 hours after Coventry's draw with Plymouth.

Now the dust has settled and emotions cooled, Wagner has once again called for togetherness - explaining why it is such an important and necessary characteristic in their continued push for the top six.

“The answer is easy," Wagner said. "If we play away from home and we feel that in the stadium the atmosphere has turned into some negativity, then you have the feeling as the away side that you are on the right side. That you are close and you are not far away to getting them.

"This is what you always have to try and avoid. First of all, with your performances, and I think the performance on Tuesday was, especially in the first 35 minutes, one of the best of the season.

"Afterwards, with a little bit of a setback which you have to accept, it was okay. We have beaten Watford 4-2, and I don’t know how many games we are now unbeaten at home, but this atmosphere is what you always like to have as an away team and not as a home team.

“We have to put this to bed and let’s look forward. Don’t look to the past. We have the chance to show that we are better than what we have shown. Come on. Let’s go.”
