Norwich City Women 1 Worthing 1
Norwich City Women could only manage a point in Scott Emmerson’s first game in interim charge as they were held to a draw by fellow promotion hopefuls Worthing at The Nest.
The Canaries were playing in their first league match for five weeks but did not take long to settle into the contest.
Midway through the opening period, influential attacker Ellie Smith put them ahead by latching onto Alice Parker’s free-kick delivery and diverting the ball past visiting goalkeeper Lauren Dolbear.
The opening 30 minutes belonged to City but they finished the first half in lacklustre fashion, with only the crossbar preventing Worthing’s Emma Blakely from drawing her side level.
City did create a couple of opportunities to open up a two-goal cushion after the break, but they also found themselves under threat at the other end.
Sarah Quantrill made one excellent save to deny Sammy Quayle before Worthing’s Emily Linscer eventually found a way past the City keeper in the 74th minute.
Despite the players’ best efforts to find a winning goal in the final quarter of an hour, City were forced to settle for their fourth draw of the campaign.
Norwich City: Quantrill, Larkins (c), Flye, Strauss, Parker, Morran, Knights, Todd, Smith, Lawrence, Snelling. Subs: Symonds, Hailes, Tomlinson, Shaw, Pernet.
