Cambridge United 2 Norwich City Women 4
Scott Emmerson recorded his first league victory as Norwich City Women’s interim boss at the fourth attempt as the Canaries came from behind to beat East Anglian rivals Cambridge United.
Visitors City made a bright start at the Abbey Stadium but found themselves behind after only 11 first-half minutes when Brooklyn Cheal-Ferris lofted the ball over Sarah Quantrill and into the net from a wide position.
However, the Canaries’ response to conceding the opening goal was excellent, as they netted twice before the half hour mark to regain control of the game.
Centre-back Hope Strauss drew them level from the penalty spot, before Natasha Snelling poked Holly Kennard’s low cross home only two minutes later.
Shortly after the break, Snelling displayed her poacher’s instinct once more as she netted her second goal of the afternoon to finish off an impressive counter-attacking move.
Cambridge attacker Alysha Stojko-Down struck past Quantrill with just under 20 minutes left to give the home fans some belief, but Kennard made sure of an important three points for City when her corner bounced into the net via goalkeeper Lauren Webb’s gloves.
Norwich City: Quantrill, Larkins (c), Strauss, Parker, Kennard, Knights, Hailes, Tomlinson, Smith, Lawrence, Snelling. Subs: Symonds, Shaw, Cook, Limage, Pernet.
