Former Norwich City academy keeper Jed Steer is not ruling out a winning Wembley hat-trick after helping Peterborough lift the Football League Trophy in a dramatic 2-1 victory against Wycombe.

Posh captain Harrison Burrows’ 85th minute goal had put Darren Ferguson’s side in front on Sunday, but Dale Taylor beat Steer from range in the final minute of normal time.

With extra-time looming, Burrows’ speculative deep cross in the 91st minute embarrassed the back-pedalling Wycombe keeper Franco Ravizzoli to loop into the net, and seal the cup for Posh in front of more than 42,000.

Steer, who made two FA Cup appearances for the Canaries before following Paul Lambert to Aston Villa, was also in goal for a 2-1 Championship play-off final win in 2019 for the Claret and Blues, under ex-Norwich boss Dean Smith.

The 31-year-old initially signed for the League One promotion hopefuls on a short term deal in January but then extended his stay until the end of the season.

Now Steer is eyeing a potential third trip to Wembley, if Peterborough miss out on automatic promotion.

“Both 2-1 wins at Wembley. I will take that. A 100pc record and maybe I get another chance at it,” he said, speaking to Talksport. “If it takes the play-offs and we are back at Wembley then we’ll take it, but we are still trying to hunt down the top two.

"That is still our aim. We’ll keep aiming for them and if we can’t catch them, but we can go through the play-offs, it is still a great way to go up.

“We got in some good areas, as did they, and we had some good chances. We scored first and when they peg us back you think, ‘Here we go, extra-time,’ but thankfully Harrison popped up with a shot, was it a cross? Honestly I think it was a cross but we’ll take it. He’s good at aiming those balls to the back post but you’ll have to ask him.

“He’ll (Ravizzoli) will probably look at it feel it is a fluke. It’s unfortunate for him that it happened in this occasion. But that is the world we live in. That is the position we play (as keepers).”

Ferguson hailed his side’s character.

"The supporters were amazing, they were unbelievable. What a turnout. They loved it and they stuck with us, they were pushing us on and on. I’m delighted for them because it’s been a decade since we were last here.

"We might not get here for another decade so when you get the opportunity, you’ve got to make the most of it. It’s a really satisfying thing to make people happy.

“We should grow from this confidence wise.

“We weren’t brilliant, but we played the way I wanted us to play. We were brave. Hopefully we can finish the season off and do the double and get another promotion.”
