Brendan Rodgers believes Adam Idah has made the desired impact at Celtic after his January loan move from Norwich City.

The Irish international has hit goal-scoring form since his move north of the border, netting six times in his opening nine league matches for the Scottish Premiership champions, the latest coming in an epic 3-3 Old Firm derby draw against Rangers.

Idah's loan to Celtic Park raised eyebrows in the winter window, but the striker has rediscovered his confidence and found form in front of goal.

Celtic won the race to sign Idah ahead of competition from Italy, notably Hellas Verona, and a host of Championship sides, with the frontman pushing for a loan away from Norwich in pursuit of regular game time.

There is no permanent option in the loan agreement, with all parties set to reassess the situation come the summer.

Rodgers is pleased with the impact that Idah has made for Celtic since his move and thinks his impact has raised the competition levels among his other striking options.

“It’s very important. I think Adam is performing a role that I envisaged perfectly in terms of coming in and adding competition and a different threat to our game so that if we do need to change the dynamic of the game, he can do that.

“Since Adam’s come in, I think Kyogo’s game has gone back to the level that I would expect him to be at. He’s a brilliant mover, the timing of his runs, everything is so good," Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“Both of those players are contributing a lot to the performance levels. We had a great first period of the game from Kyogo.

“When we needed to go a little bit more direct with our build-up play, Adam was great at relieving that sort of pressure and bringing the team into the game. His strength and physicality was really important for us.”

Celtic currently sit top of the league by a single point, although Rangers have a game in hand with the sides still to face each other at Celtic Park before the conclusion of the campaign.
