Former Norwich City player Josh Murphy has reached the League One play-off final with Oxford United after their draw with Peterborough.

The Us came from behind to tie 1-1 on the night, running out 2-1 aggregate winners at the ABAX Stadium to book a Wembley clash with Bolton Wanderers later this month.

The 29-year-old, who was born near the national stadium in West London but grew up in Downham Market, will face former team-mate Cameron Jerome in the final after he helped Wanderers to a narrow two-legged win over Barnsley.

Murphy played a key role across the two legs and will hope to end his fine campaign on a high. The former English under-20 international has scored eight goals and claimed five assists in 37 appearances, prompting interest from Championship and MLS clubs.

Sunderland, Hull, West Brom, QPR and Minnesota were touted with an interest in Murphy as well as Southampton, whose manager Russell Martin captained him at Norwich.

Oxford fans are still hopeful of keeping the winger at the club, however, despite his current contract running out this summer. It's believed promotion could be a key factor in his future, and those fans weren't afraid of making their voices heard after the semi-final.

Chants of "we want you to stay" interrupted club media's attempts to interview Murphy, who eventually said: "[We had to work] so hard, so hard.

"We didn't play the way we wanted to today, but we found a way to get to the final. You just hear that noise, I've got goose bumps now.

"You've got to savour these moments. Tonight was a special night and we're going to Wembley."

Murphy originally joined the Canaries' academy alongside twin brother Jacob as an under-12 in 2006, going on to play a minor role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2015.

He became a key player during the 2017-18 season, eventually leaving for Cardiff in an £11million deal at the end of that campaign.
