Fortuna Dusseldorf chief Klaus Allofs has pledged that the club 'will do everything' to keep Norwich City winger Christos Tzolis at the club.

Tzolis has enjoyed a remarkable campaign at the Bundesliga Two club, scoring 22 league goals and winning the Golden Boot award as Dusseldorf sit two games away from promotion.

It has been the campaign the Greek international needed after falling flat upon a recall to Norwich last January. He has rediscovered his confidence and shown his ability at the Merkur Spiel Arena.

The conversation has shifted in Germany to what could lie ahead for Tzolis, with Bundesliga sides and others from abroad monitoring his progress.

A return to the Bundesliga for Dusseldorf, which will be achieved if they edge past Bochum in the play-offs, make a permanent return for Tzolis more likely.

Director of sport Allofs hopes to keep Tzolis at the club beyond the summer, but reports in Germany state he would require a pay cut to re-join. Dusseldorf do possess an option to sign the winger permanently.

Whilst Allofs has vowed to 'do everything' he has conceded the likelihood of signing Tzolis is slight.

“There are, of course, scenarios in which it would be possible to keep him," Allofs told the Rheinische Post.

"That’s why we want to explore everything and have a lot of discussions with Christos, his agent and also Norwich City.

"But so far, it is completely impossible for us to reach a common denominator. We will do everything, and yet the probability is small."

As talk around his future continues to gather pace, Tzolis and his team are preparing on that crucial two-legged game against Bochum - which starts on Thursday night.

To win promotion to the Bundesliga, Dusseldorf, who finished third in the second tier, will have to beat Bochum, who finished third from bottom in the top-flight. That challenge is one the on-loan City winger is relishing.

“Every one of us is happy," Tzolis said."If we want to become a Bundesliga team, we also have to win against a Bundesliga team.

"Bochum are not in really good shape but is still a strong and, above all, physically good opponents. These will be two challenging and close games. But I’m really positive about the coming days.”
