Kenny McLean has admitted that shaking off Norwich City's play-off disappointment ahead of representing Scotland at Euro 2024 will prove challenging.

McLean was left hurting by the Canaries' crushing 4-0 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road last week - a result that ended David Wagner's tenure as head coach and began the process of widespread change at the club led by Ben Knapper.

The manner of the defeat asked searching questions of a City group that managed to turnaround their Championship campaign, but the quality of Leeds was too great in the end.

McLean now faces a challenge to overcome that disappointment to prepare for Euro 2024 after being included in Scotland's provisional 28-man squad.

"Nobody knows what is going to happen over the summer - ins and outs, that's not for me to think about just now, to be honest," McLean said after the Elland Road defeat.

"I am trying to get over the disappointment of this, and it's hard. Normally, off the back of something, you go away to a different environment with different people, and it's okay to get going again.

"I think this will hurt for longer than normal. I'll have a week with my family and meet up with Scotland [this week] hopefully."

Whilst preparing for the tournament in Germany, Norwich will likely hire a new coach and continue to alter the squad.

McLean is hoping everyone involved in City's campaign will conduct a period of self-reflection

"Individually, people will need to go away and have a look at what they could have done better and what they want for the future and for themselves.

"The lads will have a few weeks off and you never know in this environment what is going to happen. Everyone needs a few weeks now to think about how they can improve - because there were large parts of the season that weren't good enough.

"It's time for self-reflection, going away and seeing what you can improve on. When we get back, it's about putting things to bed and go again."
