Norwich City have confirmed the signing of Dundee United’s teenage attacker Brandon Forbes.

The 18-year-old will initially link up with the club’s development pool after signing a four year deal, with a one year club option, for an undisclosed fee, reported north of the border as a potential £500,000 package plus a 20pc sell on fee.

Forbes had made three senior appearances in the cups for the Tangerines, scoring four minutes into his senior debut in July to beat Ayr.

The former Rangers academy player had dropped out of the professional game in his early teens before linking up with the Tannadice club after netting a hat-trick in the Scottish FA Youth Cup Final for Renfrewshire-based boys' club Thorn Athletic.

Forbes stepped up to the first team squad this summer and was involved in pre-season friendlies against Brechin City, Annan Athletic and Connah’s Quay Nomads before netting a stunning free kick on his League Cup bow in July.

The right-footer was under contract with the Scottish Premiership club until 2025, and City are believed to have forged close links with United this summer after Emmanuel Adegboyega previously moved north of the border on a season long loan deal.

“I’m really excited to sign for Norwich City," he told the club's official site. "It’s a big move for me, but I can’t wait to get started and hopefully continue my development here.

“As a player, I’m a left winger who can cut inside. I think I'm a very attack-minded midfielder. I love being out there and trying to make things happen in the final third of the pitch. I’m ready and raring to go.

"I don't think it will sink in for the next few days. I'm really happy to be here. I spoke to Manny and as soon as my agents said there was interest I gave him a call and raring to go. He said it was a lovely city and a lovely team.

"To see other Scottish boys coming over (Gabe Forsyth) and doing well is going to be encouraging for me. And I am looking to do exactly the same.”

Forbes could be joined at Carrow Road ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline by Chelsea development captain, Billy Gee.

The England U19 international is available on a free in a package that would include add-ons and a sell-on fee for Chelsea.

The 19-year-old was Chelsea's under-21 captain last season and was named on the bench for their League Cup final defeat to Liverpool in February. He made 16 Premier League Two appearances for the Blues last season.
