Norwich City have named former AC Milan goalkeeper coach Tony Roberts as their new goalkeeping coach.
The Welsh coach has succeeded Paul Clements in the role after he left Carrow Road to join Narcis Pelach's coaching team at Stoke earlier this month.
City have continued their search for a successor and Roberts emerged as the prime candidate. Roberts recently left the San Siro and Norwich have moved quickly to secure his services to join Johannes Hoff Thorup's coaching team.
No compensation has been paid for Roberts' services, with the Welshman agreeing to terminate his AC Milan contract due to his desire to join Norwich.
Roberts has extensive experience within football, having worked as a goalkeeper coach since his first spell in the academy at QPR back in 1997.
After a spell at Loftus Road, Roberts worked at Arsenal alongside City sporting director Ben Knapper, initially as part of the academy but then stepping up to join Arsene Wenger's backroom team for over 200 games between 2011 and 2015.
Roberts has subsequently spent time at Swansea, Wales, Chinese side Hebei FC, Birmingham and Wolves where he worked with former Canaries number one John Ruddy before a shock move to AC Milan.
He joined the Italian giants in August 2023 and served under Stefano Pioli but departed the club after Paulo Fonseca's arrival in the summer.
At Milan, Roberts worked closely with France star Mike Maignan but will now will tasked with improving City's stable of goalkeepers including Angus Gunn, George Long and Archie Mair.
Discussing his arrival at Carrow Road, Roberts told official channels: “I’m really happy to join Johannes and his backroom staff. It’s a club that are starting with a new project and it’s something that really excites and appeals to me.
“I’ve heard a lot about Johannes and the coaching set-up here. He’s clearly a very knowledgeable and exciting young coach and I’m really looking forward to working with him.
“I’ve watched a lot of Norwich so far this season. It feels like an exciting group with a lot of talent and hopefully I can help and contribute to that.
“Ben (Knapper) is someone I’ve known since he walked through the door at Arsenal. He’s progressed through the game and I’m really excited by the project that he is building here. When he asked if I’d be interested in coming and joining him at Norwich I had no doubts.
“I know about the quality and size of Norwich as a club. It was a no-brainer for me and I can’t wait to get going.”
Sporting director Ben Knapper added: “I am absolutely thrilled to have Tony join us here at Norwich City. He is someone that I have known for a long time, having worked with him previously at Arsenal.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience at the very top levels of the game, in both club and international football. He will be a great asset for us, driving our goalkeeping programme forward club-wide.
“We’re very fortunate to secure someone of his calibre, and I’m looking forward to seeing the great impact he will inevitably make in our environment.”
