Bristol City made their long journey from the West Country well worthwhile with victory over the Canaries in the FA Premier Academy Under-18 League at Colney this afternoon.

The visitors went two goals up before City hit back with a goal from Seb Muddel, but with David Williams fielding a very young side, Bristol held on to their slender lead comfortably.

A bitterly cold wind greeted both teams as the game got under way with Bristol taking the game to the Canaries.

It was, however, Norwich who had the first real chance of the game when Asmat El Ouargui saw a shot deflected just wide of the target.

Norwich rued their luck shortly afterwards when Bristol had what appeared to be a good call for a penalty turned away when Andrew Cave-Brown appeared to foul Jennison Williams.

City keeper Steven Arnold made a good save down to his right to deny Billy Marshall and moments later it was an important tackle from Michael Spillane that denied Marshall yet again.

Just two minutes before the break, Bristol opened the scoring when Williams brushed two City defenders aside to drive in a shot that went in off the inside of the post.

Blizzard conditions at the start of the second half saw Arnold quickly called again into action when he turned the header from Ollie Barnes over the crossbar.

With 58 minutes gone, Bristol extended their lead when City failed to clear a corner, allowing MARSHALL to drive a low shot past Arnold from the edge of the box.

Ten minutes later, Norwich reduced the arrears when a great run from Bally Smart saw Bristol 'keeper Sam Pearce fail to hold on to the winger's shot, allowing MUDDEL the opportunity to pick up the loose ball and slide it under the 'keeper.

City worked hard in the final 15 minutes but the best they could muster was a free kick from Spillane that went just over the bar.
