Shola Ameobi's proposed move to Ipswich has been put on hold after the striker's medical showed up a hamstring injury.

The injury was sustained in pre-season with Newcastle and the former England Under-21 international is unlikely to be fit before the end of the August transfer window, so Town are now exploring other options.

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton said: “It's disappointing but you have to be careful with hamstring injuries and we don't want a repeat of last season, when Shefki Kuqi joined us and suffered a hamstring injury in his first game.”

Norwich had been linked with the 26-year-old before Town agreed a fee with the Magpies.
