The Norwich-born keeper has joined from Manchester City on a season-long loan, returning to the club he left at the age of 11 – and where his father is a true Canaries legend, keeping goal as City pushed for the 1993 top-flight title and then on into Europe the following year.

“Since I was a little boy I came to Carrow Road every home game with my mum and my sister,” said Gunn.

“He’s the reason I grew up here. My dad was here for a good number of years and hopefully I can keep the name going at Carrow Road.

“I’ve kept an eye on Norwich throughout my career. I’m looking forward to coming back in the summer and training hard, meeting the new staff and manager. We’ll be looking to get a good pre-season under our belts so we can start well, which is important.

“It’s exciting times, with the new regime. No one knows what to expect at the start but hopefully we can be pushing for promotion next year.”

The summer of change has not been lost on Gunn, who is still yet to make a senior appearance in his professional career. He will spend the summer with England at this year’s European Under-21 Championships in Poland.

Sporting director Stuart Webber instigated the loan move, while new head coach Daniel Farke will be keen to have a core of young talent that can help propel City on to better things than they managed last term.

“This is the next step of my career, getting games and getting experience, so I’m absolutely buzzing,” added Gunn.

“The main thing for me is to come out and get some experience, play some games in the Championship and obviously mix that with coming to Norwich, and it was a great feeling for me to receive the call.

“It’s been a while since I was back but I’ve got lots of friends and family here. It’s just a case of settling back into normal ways now.

“I had different options. Being from Norwich and growing up as a Norwich fan, it’s a great pleasure to come back and sign on loan.

“I saw the squad and the way it played at times last season, and potentially they could have been in the play-offs, so definitely that was one of the reasons for me coming.

“Plus there’s a new regime starting with the new manager and hopefully some new, younger, exciting players coming in.”
