Dean Ashton was missing from today's Norwich City line-up, heightening speculation that he will be sold during the January transfer window.

It is understood that the official excuse for Ashton's absence is a thigh injury but with Manchester City, Wigan, Portsmouth, Charlton and today's opponents West Ham all rumoured to be interested in signing the England Under-21 international, the smart money would go on Ashton leaving within the next few days.

Canaries manager Nigel Worthington earlier this week vowed to play Ashton no matter what and said: "If there was a buyer, maybe being cup-tied would affect his value in the buyer's book - but not in Norwich City's book. He is not really for sale anyway."
