Ricky Martin was without the services of Sam Habergham and keeper Jed Steer but there was a place on the bench for Alex Stephens who has been sidelined since the start of the campaign.
The home side lead at the break by 2-0 but not before the Canaries had wasted a handful of good opportunities to take the lead.
The second half saw Villa find the net three more times with City's only reply coming via the penalty spot from substitute David Nwaogu.
