AYLSHAM Ladies beat visitors Mulbarton Belles 3-2 after an evenly matched game on Sunday.

Fast acceleration by Michaela England and Vikki Bird regularly put a stop to the Belles' attack. Some excellent shots on goal, especially by Abby Timmins were saved by the Belles!

Skilful and agile goalkeeping from Sarah Bird ensured the score line stayed tight as Aylsham came under attack.

A superb team effort by Aylsham who played with slick and accurate passing made an enthralling game against the strong and skilful Mulbarton side.

Debbie Kelly launched a shot on goal from just inside her half and Aylsham Ladies were delighted to watch it soar over the goalkeeper's head.

A powerful header by Mulbarton and a penalty for handling in the area gave Mulbarton their goals. Emma Gillespie scored twice with her left foot to bring the tally to three.

PoMatch: Debbie Kelly.

In previous games, Aylsham had a good record.

They beat hosts Wymondham in the first league game and won 5-1 with Gina Atherton scoring all five. PoM: Michaela England.

On September 20 Aylsham hosted Thorpe and lost 5-2. PoM: keeper Sarah Bird. Scorers: Gina Atherton, Emma Gillespie. On September 27 Aylsham visited Dereham and won 4-1 despite only having 10 players. PoM: Kylie Timmins, playing out of position in defence. Scorers: Gina Atherton 2, Kylie Timmins 1, Emma Gillespie 1.

The Aylsham players were applauded from the field by the Dereham officials.

On October 4, Aylsham hosted King's Lynn and won 5-3. After an early goal by Lynn, Aylsham dominated the first half with an outstanding display of unity and teamwork. It was judged to be Aylsham's finest performance to date.

The strength and solid performance throughout the team was a credit to player/manager Abby Timmins. The defence were marshalled at the back by the powerful and fast Vikki Bird.

King's Lynn players had the height advantage but they were unable to halt the flow of Aylsham. The second half was rather more evenly matched with plenty of action at either end of the pitch. Scorers: Gina Atherton 4, Emma Gillespie 1. PoM: Gina Atherton.
