The league programme got underway in the traditional manner with the first round matches in the Birds Sport & Outdoor Benevolent Cup, the League’s Cup winners Cup competition.

Yaxham put down an emphatic marker for the rest of Division One with a 10-0 win at the Division Four champions, Litcham. Dereham Town A won their local derby with Scarning United 6-4. The Benevolent Cup holders and Division Two champions, Castle Acre Swifts, travelled to Tacolneston and had to relinquish their hold on the Cup as a result of a 2-1 defeat. In the other match, Mulbarton Wanderers Reserves got off to a flying start with a 4-1 win at Nostro.

Cockers had a very good start to their Division Two campaign with a 5-2 home win over Bawdeswell and Hethersett Athletic had a good 3-2 win at Sporle.

In Division Three, Stoke Ferry ran up the highest league score of the day in beating Great Cressingham 8-1 at home while Attleborough Athletic got off to a good start with their new name by winning 4-0 at Methwold United. League newcomers Weeting did not have such a positive start, going down by the only goal of the game at Watton United A. The other match between Colkirk and Splitz United ended as a 2-2 draw.

Dereham Cockers United started their Division Four campaign with a 6-1 home win over Methwold United Reserves and in the local derby between two new reserve teams Feltwell United Reserves came out on top with a 2-0 home win over Northwold S&SC Reserves. Weasenham Wanderers won 2-0 at Yaxham Reserves and Walsingham United and Gressenhall Reserves took a point apiece from a 2-2 draw.
