Ryan Bertrand is the main fitness concern for Norwich City boss Bryan Gunn ahead of tomorrow's Championship home match against Bristol City (3pm).

The 19-year-old defender was substituted at half-time in Tuesday's 3-3 draw at Wolves because of an ankle injury.

“We'll give Ryan as much time as we can. He took a little knock on his ankle, so he's been with the physios,” said Gunn today.

“If we can get him out on the training pitch today, good, if not he can have a fitness test tomorrow so we'll give him right up until two o'clock.

“We'll give him every chance. I think that's only fair because he's been part of the positive results we've had. The consistency we've had in terms of keeping the same bodies on the pitch has been helpful.

“There were a few bumps and bruises because it was quite a physical battle in many ways, but the lads stood up well and enjoyed it.”

Bertrand was used in a wide midfield role at Molineux with Adam Drury recalled at left-back, giving City added defensive cover on the left-hand side as they tried to deal with Wolves right-winger Michael Kightly. As it transpired, Kightly departed before Bertrand because of a shoulder injury.

“It was partly to counter Kightly and again it's something we might do more often,” said Gunn, who has an abundance of options on the left.

“With the arrival of David Carney, we've got Matthew Pattison, Wes Hoolahan - we've got good balance down the left-hand side.

“It's getting the right combination and certainly against Wolves we felt the combination was right to counteract one of their danger areas.”

Skipper Mark Fotheringham is available again after serving a one-match suspension.

The Bristol City squad set off by coach to Norfolk this morning, leaving behind some dreadful weather with snow and ice causing havoc in the West Country. Bristol airport suspended all flights and both Severn Crossings were closed.
