Norwich City can have Dundee's highly-rated midfielder Kevin McDonald - but only at the right price.

The Canaries have been heavily linked with the 19-year-old midfielder after a season of excellent performances saw him named the Dens Park outfit's player of the year and earned him a nomination as a Scottish PFA young player of the year.

And now the Dark Blues boss Alex Rae has admitted the talented Carnoustie-born player will probably leave if someone can stump up enough cash.

Dundee are still trying to bounce back from a recent spell in administration when they clocked up debts exceeding £23m, and Rae concedes he may be forced to let McDonald go, albeit reluctantly.

“We're under no illusions about how well Kevin did for us last season,” Rae said.

“And given, the financial implications for the club, were we to be offered a substantial sum of money for him we'd probably have to let Kevin go.”

“But at the moment that's all hypothetical as I'm not aware of any such offer being made to us.”

Rumours are circulating that Glenn Roeder is on the verge of making a bid of around £500,000 for the player who is also wanted by several other clubs including Celtic, who bid £75,000 for him in 2005, Rangers, West Brom, Everton, Crystal Palace, Plymouth Argyle and Burnley.

So far, the Clarets have been the only club to stick their head above the parapet and make a concrete offer for McDonald who signed a new contract with the club at the start of the year, although it was flatly refused by the Scottish League Division One outfit.

The Turf Moor club bid £250,000 for McDonald.

But Dundee chairman Bob Brannan said, “We have refused an offer which does not meet our valuation.

“The deadline for transfers is three months away and we will not be rushed into doing bad business.”

Meanwhile, Roeder and his side could have one less thing to worry about next season, as derby day nemesis Danny Haynes could be set to leave Portman road for the Premier League.

The 20-year-old Tractor Boys forward, who once had a trail with City, has claimed four senior goals against the Canaries in the past three seasons.

But now the speedster is attracting the prying eyes of some of the top-flight's big boys with West Ham, Wigan and Everton all said to be interested.

However favourites for his signature are FA Cup winner Portsmouth, after Haynes caught the eye of boss Harry Redknapp in a third round tie between Pompey and Ipswich earlier this year.

The south coast side are expected to try to tempt Town into a deal with a £2m bid including add-ons, while Haynes also took part in a 'Friends of Kanu' charity game on Monday, despite admitting to not knowing the African striker!
