Wizard start he may have made, but new Yarmouth Town Football Club manager Kevin Rowark is quick to stress he's no magician. Two wins in five days have dispelled the gloom hanging over Wellesley Road after the Bloaters had taken maximum points from only three of their previous 26 matches in Division One of the Ridgeons League. “Some people have been saying I must have a magic wand, but that's certainly not the case,” said Rowark, who has joined Yarmouth after guiding Martham to the top of Division Four of the Lovewell Blake Anglian Combination. “The fact is that, with the squad they have, Yarmouth should never have been at the bottom of the table. The players are now starting to prove that and they're putting a smile on the faces of everyone at the club. They've certainly put a spring in my step.” Daley Palmer scored on Saturday as the Bloaters beat Haverhill 1-0 at Wellesley Road to follow up the midweek win at Thetford which took them up three places from the bottom of the table.

Gorleston won 3-1 (Lewis Smith, Eddie Thompson and Jonny Watt) at Hadleigh, but slip below Yarmouth on goal difference after being docked four points for fielding an ineligible player in a win over Whitton and a draw with Thetford Town.

Swaffham Town are sixth after losing 2-1 to Stanway Rovers, with Fakenham Town 10th after a 3-3 (Luke Durrant, Danny McKail and Jamie McManus) draw at Long Melford.

Thetford Town moved off the bottom with a 3-2 victory at Cornard, while Downham Town are sixth from bottom after beating Saffron Walden 3-0.

Gary Bush, Jason Cook and Adam Elden were Downham's scorers.

Lowestoft Town bounced back from their defeat by AFC Sudbury to keep the pressure on the Premier Division pacemakers with a 4-0 victory over FA Vase quarter-finalists Newmarket.

Gary McGee (2) and Russell Stock (2) scored as, from one match more, the Blues stayed three points behind Sudbury, who won 2-0 (Neil Calver and Tommy Noble) against fourth-placed Needham Market.

Wisbech Town are fifth after a 1-0 defeat by ninth-placed Diss Town, for whom Andy Key scored from an 80th-minute free-kick. It was the Tangerines' fourth successive win - a feat they had not previously achieved this season.

“We were let down by our forwards, who should have scored three goals in the first half,” lamented Wisbech manager Dick Creasey. “But we defended well and it took a good goal to beat us.”

Wroxham won 2-0 at Woodbridge and are 10th, just above Dereham Town, who came from behind to record an impressive 5-1 victory at Leiston.

Gary Gilmore scored both of the Wroxham goals, while Danny Wright hit a hat-trick for the Magpies, whose other marksmen were Joe Kerry and Neil Renaut.

Kirkley won 2-1 (Judd Chenery and Nathan Stone) at Harwich and are 14th in the table, just above King's Lynn Reserves, whose 0-0 draw at Clacton gave the basement side their first point of the campaign.

Norwich United moved up to fourth from bottom with a morale-boosting 2-1 success against seventh-placed Soham at Plantation Park.
