King's Lynn star striker Danny Bloomfield was last nigh poised to join Nationwide Conference South side Histon for an undisclosed fee.

Lynn's 16-goal top scorer was discussing personal terms at Bridge Road after the Southern League, Premier Division promotion hopefuls accepted a five-figure offer to sell their prized asset.

“The two clubs have reached agreement,” confirmed Linnets chairman Ken Bobbins. “Danny and his representative are now in the process of finalising personal terms, but we don't envisage any problem.

“I was contacted by the Histon chairman late on Monday night and that initial approach was subsequently faxed to me in writing.

“On behalf of the board I want to stress we have taken this decision on a purely footballing basis. It is not a cost-cutting measure, although the cash injection will clearly help the club to achieve its stated ambition, which remains promotion.”

Histon reportedly launched a £10,000 cash plus player deal last November for the deadly striker who notched 52 goals in 93 appearances during two spells at The Walks.

The 23-year-old turned down a proposed loan move to Cambridge United only last week.

“Danny is an ambitious lad,” said Bobbins. “Quite naturally he wants to play at the highest level possible and we would not stand in the way of any player with the opportunity to progress. He's done tremendously for us in his time here and we wish him well.”

Lynn's chairman dismisses suggestions Bloomfield's imminent departure could derail the club's promotion charge.

“We are absolutely determined to push on and this deal suits both parties,” he said. “Tommy Taylor is already in preliminary discussions with a possible replacement. Those talks are still at an early stage and we will release further details in due course.

“We would hope the quality of player brought in over Christmas shows this club cannot be accused of lacking ambition. Matt Nolan has chipped in with five goals recently and we have other lads more than capable of scoring.”

In a frenetic day of transfer activity at The Walks it also emerged that Mark Angel could be heading to Stamford on an initial month's loan.

The former Boston midfielder has been surplus to requirements since returning from an extended loan spell at Cambridge United.

“We're in the process of completing the paperwork with Stamford,” said Linnets boss Taylor. “Grantham are still interested as well but the final decision rests with Mark.”

Taylor has shelved Matt O'Halloran's proposed loan move to the Daniels. The midfielder trained with the first team squad on Tuesday night and will be in the travelling party for this weekend's trip to Chippenham.
