Lowestoft Town are new leaders of the Ridgeons League Premier Division table.

The Blues could only draw 1-1 with lowly Histon Reserves, but, with a game in hand, went top on goal difference because AFC Sudbury lost 3-1 to Wisbech Town.

It was the eighth league defeat of the season for Sudbury, who had previously lost a total of only 21 games in picking up five successive championships.

Victory took the Fenmen up to third place, three points off the pace and having played one match more than Lowestoft, their opponents at Fenland Park next Saturday.

Histon captain Ossie Mintus put Lowestoft ahead with an own goal at Crown Meadow, but atoned by equalising just before the break.

As well as having two penalty appeals rejected in the second half, the Blues spurned several gilt-edged chances - misses which supporters will hope won't prove crucial in the final analysis.

Goals by Liam Harrold (29th minute) and Wayne Morris (39th) put Wisbech 2-0 at the King's Marsh Stadium, where Lee Owen reduced the deficit just before half-time.

Liam Nimmo sealed the Fenmen's victory in second half injury time.

“To come here and win is great, and shows what good character we have in the side,” said Wisbech manager Dick Creasey.

“We are just looking forward to the next game now. Everybody wants to play and I hope our good run continues.”

Wroxham, who entertain Sudbury next Saturday, are eighth in the table after a 1-0 win at Needham Market, where Leighton Miller netted in the 34th minute.

Diss Town beat relegated basement side Clacton 8-0 and are 11th, just above Dereham Town, who twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Mildenhall.

Gary Ingram (2), Danny White (2), Lewis Blois, Jordan Blyth, Coren Hardy and Andy Key were the Tangerines' marksmen.

Sam Willis and Danny Wright scored for Dereham, the latter in the last minute.

Kirkley, who drew 1-1 with Leiston on Friday night, are 14th, just above King's Lynn Reserves, who were without a fixture.

Norwich United are now eight points adrift in the third relegation position after a 2-1 defeat at Soham.

Yarmouth Town's resurgence in Division One continued with a 2-1 win over Swaffham Town at Wellesley Road.

Tom Fitchew and Shane Ward scored for the 13th-placed Bloaters, with Kevin Leggett replying for the Pedlars, who are now seventh in the table.

Fakenham Town are 11th after a 2-2 draw at Godmanchester watched by just 24 paying customers, while Gorleston drew 0-0 at Stanway Rovers and are 18th.

Downham Town lost 2-0 to Walsham-le-Willows and are third from bottom, just above Thetford Town, who beat March 2-0 at Mundford Road.
