Brandon Ladies 2, AFC Sudbury 2

After promotion last season to the Eastern Region Women’s League, Brandon started their new campaign with a familiar fixture against AFC Sudbury who were also promoted after finishing runners-up to Brandon in the SWFL.

Brandon got off to a flying start with Sophie Burr-Walpole slotting home from a corner in the opening minutes and looked likely to add to this but after Sudbury’s nervy start they started to move the ball around and pressure the home goal but the Brandon defended well and when they did break through Leanne Smith was in excellent form in the Brandon goal.

Late in the half Sudbury were awarded a penalty and scored making 1-1 at h/t

Brandon really had to dig in for second period with Sudbury pushing forward and took the league with 10 minutes remaining but Brandon responded well and with 45 minutes up on the clock Charlotte Howard closed in on a through ball and as the Sudbury keeper game out to clear blocked the ball with it finishing in the net for a hard-earned point.
