Brentford manager Andy Scott has not ruled out a move for Norwich City defender Michael Spillane.

Scott is looking for a pair of full-backs following the departures of Ryan Dickson to Southampton and Danny Foster to Wycombe Wanderers and has also been linked with Craig Woodman, currently at Wycombe.

As reported in yesterday's Evening News, Spillane, 21, has been linked with the Bees.

“There are always rumours in football and I've read them too, but when you've worked as hard as we have this summer, then every player who's out of contract seems to be linked with you at some time or another,” he said.

“Certainly Woodman is a left-back and Spillane could play centre-back or on the right, but so could others out there.”

Spillane made 16 appearances for City last season and looked to be in a straight fight with Russell Martin for a starting place at right-back for the Championship campaign.

t Former City winger Lee Croft was yesterday reunited with one-time Norwich assistant manager Lee Clark when he joined League One club Huddersfield on loan until January.

The 25-year-old, who joined Derby on a free transfer at the end of the 2008-09 season, found himself out of the first team picture in the second half of last season.

Croft was a regular in Nigel Clough's side in the first three months of last season, but started only once after the turn of the year.

“Lee struggled in the second half of last season and with us trying to bring in players in that position, he can go out and play some games,” said Clough. “We feel Steve Davies, Tomasz Cywka and Paul Green can fill that position, so we have options, but we are looking at either a loan or a permanent signing. We have got about half a dozen names in the frame and it is about seeing which one we can get for the right deal.”

“We were getting nothing from the wingers in away games in the first two or three months of the season,” said Clough. “Lee probably struggled when the team struggled, like a few players did, but you need people to bounce back and have a go.”

t Full-back Michael Rose has completed his move to League One play-off finalists Swindon Town on a free transfer. Rose made 12 appearances on loan at City last season, but manager Paul Lambert chose not to take up the option of signing the left-back permanently.
