Glenn Roeder has dismissed links in the national press this morning Ipswich Town defender Alex Bruce is set to make the journey across the Waveney.

It is believed Town have decided not to offer the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international - who was born in Norwich - a new deal, leaving him out of contract this summer.

Italian clubs Fiorentina, Genoa and Napoli, as well as Norwich's Championship rivals Preston and Burnley have also been linked with Bruce, but the Canaries manager said any links with a move across to Town's fierce rivals was pure speculation.

“When somebody looks like they're going to leave their club, what with agents these days, they have to create speculation to see if there is anyone out there that suddenly comes forward because of the speculation in the papers,” said Roeder. “You need to use other football clubs to create speculation and obviously someone has done that with Alex as far as I'm concerned.

“We've seen Alex play; we've seen lots of players play. Like his dad, he's a tough boy but that is just pure and utter speculation and I would think they've probably chosen us because of the links his father had.”
