Bundesliga dream ends for Srbeny, as former City loanee takes on Messi

The Bundesliga dream came to an end for former Norwich City striker Dennis Srbeny last night, while a recent Canaries loanee was taking on Lionel Messi and Barcelona as football resumes across Europe.
The 26-year-old has managed five goals in 15 games in the German top flight since leaving the Canaries permanently in January, heading back to former club Paderborn in a deal reportedly worth in excess of £1million.
However, a 1-0 loss away to mid-table Union Berlin last night saw Paderborn slip back to Bundesliga Two, with Srbeny coming on for the final 24 minutes but unable to find the equaliser to keep his team’s hopes alive.
It takes the North Rhine-Westphalia club back to the second tier having surged to the Bundesliga with successive promotions, as they sit eight points from safety with two games remaining, having won just one of their last 15 matches.
Srbeny, who spoke to us recently about his Norwich exit, had also scored one Premier League goal for City prior to his January exit after limited chances during 18 months in the Championship.
Prior to arriving in England he had played in the third and fourth tiers in Germany, leaving the forward seemingly well set to make an impact during his first Bundesliga Two campaign during 2020-21.

Elsewhere last night, Canaries loanee Philip Heise lost his starting spot and was an unused substitute as Nuernberg gave their survival hopes a huge boost in Bundesliga Two, winning 6-0 away to relegation rivals Wehen to sit three points clear of trouble with two games remaining.
The season has also resumed in Spain and last night saw former Norwich loanee Ibrahim Amadou taking on the best player on the planet as Leganes were beaten 2-0 at Barcelona.

The defensive midfielder made 13 appearances for City before his mostly unsuccessful loan from Sevilla was cut short in January. He came on in the 63rd minute with his team already trailing 1-0 and wasn’t involved in the incident which allowed Argentina icon Messi to seal the win from the penalty spot six minutes later, at the empty 99,000 capacity Camp Nou stadium.
The defeat leaves Amadou and Leganes bottom of La Liga and three points from safety with nine games to play.
