Daniel Farke warned his Norwich City players about what they would face at Burnley but midfielder Mo Leitner admits the Canaries were still taught some harsh lessons during defeat at Turf Moor.

City's head coach had preempted it would be a vastly different game to the success of the previous week's superb 3-2 home win over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

With their physicality, defensive strength, organisation and aerial ability, the Clarets may not be particularly stylish but they are effective and established in the Premier League.

"We learned that when the referee blows the whistle we have to be prepared," said Leitner after the defeat.

"We can't be there after 10-15 minutes because we have to be there (ready) in each and every thing, because the other teams want to beat us.

"We have to stay together and fight further onwards."

Leitner replaced the injured Alex Tettey between Chris Wood's two goals in the 10th and 14th minutes, having missed the win over Manchester City with a calf problem.

And while he did help City to get their passing game going eventually, and also struck a post with a fine shot from 25 yards before the break, he couldn't prevent the defeat.

"If we are honest, they had only one plan: to kick it long and be prepared for the fight," the German continued. "They did it in the first 10-15 minutes really well, they scored twice.

"For us we needed to wake up during that first 10-15 minutes but after that we showed a great reaction and even before the first goal of Burnley we had a big chance of Teemu (Pukki).

"I was a little bit unlucky with my shot which hit the post, so maybe if we had a bit more luck we would have been back in the game earlier.

"But we have to analyse the game, keep going, keep fighting and learn from it."

The former Borussia Dortmund ace hopes the Canaries will stick to their passing style though, as he still believes it will continue the club's upward trajectory under Farke.

"The boss told us exactly what would happen. They (Burnley) have one plan, they stick together, like they have in the last five years," he added of Burnley.

"They kick the ball and we are fighting for the second balls. In the first 10 minutes we were surprised and out of this we have to learn.

"I think we also had some periods in the game where we showed that we are competitive also in that football. Last season and also this season we showed that our football is successful against other teams.

"I love our football. We will stick to our plan and analyse the mistakes and get points again."
