Burnley boss insists there is no bad blood between him and Ben Gibson, revealing that he has been in contact with the defender to wish him well for his time with Norwich City.

The Clarets equalled their club record when spending £15million to sign the centre-back from Middlesbrough in 2018 but a hernia injury ruined the first half of his first season.

He then made just one cup appearance last season and wasn’t even named on the bench in the Premier League after New Year’s Day.

The 27-year-old had been training with former club Boro but City continued to pursue a player they had identified as an ideal addition to their squad after relegation from the top flight and eventually agreed an initial loan deal, which will be made permanent if promotion is secured.

“It wasn’t a case of reconciliation I can assure you,” Dyche told Lancs Live, as he spoke about Gibson’s exit for the first time.

“I spoke to Gibbo a few times, I sent him a message the other day to say ‘I hope it goes really well for you’.

“There was a certain situation and a moment in time and it doesn’t continue after that.

“I wouldn’t say I have a grudge with any player I have worked with, good or bad, and certainly not him.

“There was a business decision made as much as anything so he has gone on to pastures new, at the moment, and we will see how that goes but hopefully it goes very well for him.”

Gibson was named on the bench by Daniel Farke for the first time on Saturday but didn’t get the opportunity to make his debut during the 1-0 win at Huddersfield during the opening weekend of the Championship season.

He is now in competition with Ben Godfrey, Christoph Zimmermann, Timm Klose and captain Grant Hanley is also closing on a return to full training after a hamstring injury that kept the Scotland international out of the final 10 games of last season.
