The man tipped to become Bryan Gunn's assistant manager at Carrow Road was at Doncaster to watch City in action last night.
Ian Butterworth, Hartlepool's current number two, was at the Keepmoat Stadium for the Championship game.
Former City defender Butterworth, 45, who played 293 times in eight seasons, is understood to be the target to complete the Canaries' new four-man management team.
First team coach Ian Crook and chief scout John Deehan both watched last night's match from the stand, with Crook in radio contact with goalkeeping coach Tommy Wright on the bench.
