Norwich City’s longest-serving player, Alex Tettey, is pledging to do everything he can to get the club back to the Premier League and then call it quits in 2021.

Tettey will have clocked up nine years service in Norfolk and can think of no better parting gift than another promotion on his CV with the Canaries.

“My target for next season is to just give everything, whether that’s to cheer people on or give them a bottle of water,” he said. “Watever it is to push everyone as hard as we can to see where we can reach - hopefully bouncing up straight away.”

Tettey signed a one year contract extension in February of this year but that will be it at the end of the next campaign.

The 34-year-old clocked up his 100th top flight appearance last season, a feat marked by the Premier League with a special commemorative presentation. But there will be no more Premier League moments to cherish like his thumping long range hit against Sunderland at Carrow Road or a winner at Old Trafford.

“I wasn’t setting any targets when I first came to the club, but I should have played more than 100 games if not for my injuries,” he said, speaking to the club’s official site.

“I’m still happy that I’ve managed to play 100 games for this club in the Premier League. I’m very pleased with that.

“Not everyone gets to play in the Premier League and not everyone gets to play 100 games! Some players get one, two or five, but I’ve managed 100 and that’s something I never dreamt of doing. It’s unbelievable.”

“Us staying up and beating Man City away at the end of the 2012-13 season was the highlight for me. Scoring the goals has been good as well.

“Norwich is my favourite club that I support, but Manchester United is my number two, so to go there and win and score was a day I’ll always remember at Old Trafford. It wasn’t my best goal, but I had to improvise with a toe poke and I liked it.”
