Tommy Wright has been appointed by boss Glenn Roeder as Goalkeeping Coach.

Wright, 44, formerly managed Ballymena Town and picked up 31 caps for Northern Ireland during a distinguished playing career which saw him have spells at Linfield, Newcastle United, Hull City, Nottingham Forest, Reading, Manchester City, Wrexham and Bolton Wanderers.

During his time at Newcastle Wright played alongside Roeder, Lee Clark and Paul Stephenson and is delighted to be linking up with them again at City.

Wright was originally linked with Norwich at the start of the year and told the club's official website: "Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the move in January when it was first discussed but my circumstances have changed and I'm absolutely delighted to be joining Norwich City.

"I've been working in part-time football at Ballymena but it has been my ambition to get back involved with the professional game and Norwich is a fantastic club to be given that opportunity at.

"The club has an excellent reputation for producing top quality goalkeepers and that's obviously something we want to keep going. There are some excellent keepers at the club and I'm really looking forward to working with them when I start in June.

"What Glenn, Lee and Paul are aiming to achieve at Norwich is something very exciting and I'm delighted to be a part of that."

Roeder commented: "I'm delighted Tommy Wright has agreed to join us. He was always my number one choice although we have had two or three other first class applicants. In the end it was Tommy's wealth of experience working at club and international level, and the fact that I know his qualities having worked with him at Newcastle, that persuaded me he was absolutely the right man for the job.

"His knowledge and experience will be a major boost for us and particularly for the keepers at the club. For people like David Marshall, who is still a young man don't forget, the chance to continue improving his game working with someone like Tommy is a massive plus.”
