Aston Oxborough has signed a contract extension keeping him at Norwich City until at least 2022, with the option of a further year.

The City academy prospect has been part of the first team set-up over the past 12 months and was on loan at National League South leaders Wealdstone this campaign.

“It’s a big step for me to sign for another two years. It’s what I’ve been working for over the last two seasons, so I’m delighted to sign a new deal,” he said, speaking to the club’s official site. “It’s been going well at Wealdstone so far this season. We’re sitting top of the league and have been for most weeks of the season. I’ve had some really good experiences, so I’m grateful to them for taking me.

“Hopefully, football can come back, and we’ll win the league, but we’ll see what happens.”

The 21-year-old was entering the final months of the deal he signed in April 2018, although there was believed to be a one year option available.

The Gorleston-bred prospect is yet to make a senior appearance for the Canaries, but can take inspiration from the other young players to have made the breakthrough at Carrow Road.

“It’s good to have players like Jamal (Lewis) and Todd (Cantwell) to look up to, knowing that pathway is there,” he said. “That’s the aim – to try to emulate what those boys did.

“In recent weeks, we’ve been doing our own gym programmes that Norwich have given us to keep fit.

“Another benefit to my loan is that I’ve been playing senior games with Wealdstone and then continued training at Norwich with the experienced Premier League players. That’s been great for my development.

“I broke my thumb in November, so I missed the Christmas period, which was quite tough because we were on a bit of a roll. It’s quite mentally tough to sit out of games and have a long wait to play again.

“Neil Adams has been great. We speak after every match, he gives me a ring and asks how it’s going, how the game was and how I’m doing mentally with all the travelling.”
