Daniel Farke admits Norwich City blew a huge chance to end their Championship slump after a self-inflicted 2-1 defeat against struggling Bolton.

Gary Madine and Adam Armstrong cashed in after the misfiring Canaries had dominated the early exchanges. Josh Murphy pulled one back in the final seconds but the damage had long since been done.

City must now endure the international break on the back of three league defeats and a League Cup exit in the last four games.

“It is really frustrating. I am really annoyed we have lost this game. We couldn’t see this coming,” said Farke. “We had everything under control at the start, we dominated the ball, created loads of chances and we were not effective enough.

“Bolton had two situations and scored two goals. It was pretty easy for us to defend these situations.

“The first one is a blind cross and we have one versus one and he scores four metres out at the first post. The second goal also we could have avoided. Bolton were then able to fight and try and make it five unbeaten so it was always going to be difficult in the second half.

“We created some big chances and missed them until Josh scored late but it was too much.

“The problem is we are not able to be brutal or clinical in our finishing. We had the same problem in the last 11 or 12 games.

“We have only scored one or two. But in the last away games we could have a perfect away record but then we have one or two mistakes in the last row and you have to accept the opponent is able to score.

In general, I think our defending behaviour is much better than the start of the season.

“It means we have to create more chances, we spoke about this and we did. Then it is about taking them otherwise if you are sloppy at the other end you get punished.”
