Daniel Farke admitted Norwich City’s 2-0 Premier League defeat at Burnley was a painful crash landing for the Premier League new boys.

City were unable to follow up last weekend's epic 3-2 win over the champions Manchester City, with Chris Wood cashing in on a sluggish start from the Canaries to effectively settle this game inside the opening 15 minutes.

Norwich's defeat was compounded by another injury as captain Alex Tettey was forced off a minute before Wood's second with a suspected quad issue. Tim Krul also had to play with pain killers after suffering a back problem in the warm up.

"We are disappointed with the result," said Farke. "I have just looked at the statistics and they had 13 shots, we had 11. We had 60pc possession. It was a close game but the first 15 minutes were crucial.

"The first 15 minutes cost us the game. We had the first big chance. Teemu Pukki against Nick Pope, who made a world class save. That would be a massive boost and a help in tactical terms. But we didn't start on the front foot in this 15 minutes.

"We were not proactive enough. We were not convinced to play our style and put Burnley back to our box.

"We knew they were physical and experienced and they would push us back. Here they were against a newly promoted side who had been praised so much and you know they were going to attack us and press us and be aggressive.

"We should have started more on the front foot, to be ourselves and proactive.

"We conceded some unnecessary free kicks, some bad losses of the ball in that period. The first goal, it was a good delivery but you have to go to the ball and clear it instead of being reactive.

"We are not that good we can be 2-0 down and think we are Liverpool or Manchester City and we can easily turn a game. Our quality is not at that level."

Tettey and Krul will now be assessed by Norwich's over-worked medical department.

"I didn't want to use this as an excuse but with so many experienced players injured, defensive ones at that, it doesn't help after 15 minutes your most experienced player on the pitch has to come off," said Farke. "He made a pass and felt a strain in his quad or his groin.

"We have to wait what the doctor says. It seems like it is a muscle injury.

"Tim had to cancel his warm up 30 minutes before kick-off and we had to get him through the game with some pills. He was not able to move as he would have wanted, although you wouldn't realise this from his performance.

"It doesn't help when your two most experienced players are struggling, especially in the first 15 minutes, when you would be looking for them to lead the group."
