The hierarchy at Norwich City feel ‘overwhelmed’ by the incredible support being shown for the club’s push for promotion to the Premier League.
Chief operating officer Ben Kensell spoke on behalf of the Canaries board when he thanked the 5,000 supporters who have snapped up the tickets for next month’s long trip to Wigan.
That’s despite the game being moved to a midday kick-off on Sunday, April 14, by Sky Sports – which led to City subsidising ticket and coach travel prices to ensure Daniel Farke’s title chasers have a large support to roar them on.
“We’re overwhelmed to have received such phenomenal support from our fans with this ticket initiative,” Kensell said. “I know having spoken to Stuart (Webber) and Daniel, and heard from the players themselves, that the support we receive does make such a massive difference to the team.
“To get what should be our biggest away following of the season, and our largest in the league since March 2004 when we took 7,781 to Crystal Palace, for what is another vitally important game is just great – and testament to our great supporters.
“We’d like to thank Wigan Athletic for their support and collaboration with this, as it’s something that they didn’t have to assist us with, so we are grateful to them for their help.
“But we also have to acknowledge the support and commitment of Delia and Michael and the board for allowing the club to subsidise what is tens of thousands of pounds in ticketing sales. But they saw this as a meaningful way for the club to show its gratitude to those who regularly support us at such great distances across the country.”

Farke’s team sit four points clear at the top of the Championship with eight games left, heading to Middlesbrough on Saturday with the best away record in the division, having taken 37 points from a possible 57 on the road.
Speaking to City’s website, Kensell continued: “We will also have 25 coaches travelling to Wigan on the day, which is wonderful and thanks and respect must again go to all those fans who will be getting up very early to leave Carrow Road at 5am in the morning to be there to get behind the boys! We’re thrilled with the support this initiative has received and that so many people can be there for such a crucial match.”
