Michael McGovern and teenage understudy Archie Mair will not let Norwich City down.

The Northern Ireland international keeper makes his full Premier League debut against Aston Villa at Carrow Road on Saturday, with Tim Krul and Ralf Fahrmann ruled out through injury.

McGovern's elevation to the starting line-up is also likely to mean a place on the bench for Scottish 18-year-old Mair, who has been training with the first team in recent days.

Farke is backing the duo to handle the big stage.

"I think it's Michael's first full league appearance in nearly three years, or something like this, but he's so professional and I have praised him a lot in recent weeks. He will be ready and we totally trust him," said Farke.

"Archie is a good guy, confident, and that's a quite important thing to have as a goalkeeper. When the pressure is on you need to handle it rather than crack, and it is not so easy for a young lad the first time you come into a first team environment to train with all the boys.

"Also in the shooting drills everything is a bit quicker and you need to adapt and all I can say he's a pretty well-rounded goalkeeper. He's good with his feet, good at shot stopping. We feel safe with him. Of course it is a big step but no concerns."

Farke accepts his backline will have to make some adjustments for the right-footed McGovern.

"It's a slight change. Michael is right-footed and Tim is left so the defenders have to keep that in mind which pass they play to use his stronger foot," said Farke. "Michael has a different style of playing and we also have to adapt a bit more to this. He has been working around the group for so long, whether it was training, friendlies or cup games.

"Let's totally trust him. It makes life a bit easier when you don't have to change that much.

"That's why coaches always speak about consistency, in terms of selection and not making too many changes. But yes, we have to make a small change for this game."

Krul and Fahrmann are among nine senior players on the sidelines.

"In 11 years a head coach I never known such an injury crisis where pretty often you ask yourself, 'What can you do different in training?'," said Farke. "But all the injuries are knocks or hits during the games or sometimes like Onel (Hernandez) something happens in his private life and he falls down the stairs. It's more like an unlucky situation. Yes, you can say Alex (Tettey) and Mario (Vrancic) had slight muscle injuries but the only ones we got. We have to train, we have to have duels."
