Tom Trybull will visit a specialist in London next week to assess whether he needs ankle surgery, after Daniel Farke ruled him out of Norwich City’s Championship promotion push.
Trybull was substituted in the 2-2 Easter Monday draw at Stoke City and Farke delivered a gloomy update on Friday afternoon at Colney ahead of Blackburn Rovers’ weekend visit.
Norwich will clinch promotion to the Premier League with a point in Saturday’s night’s home league finale.
“Sadly some bad news with Tom,” he said. “He is not available. Some problems with the inner band and the bone. He will be out for Blackburn. On Tuesday he sees a specialist in London and we will then know if he needs surgery. He is definitely out for the next weeks. His season is over.
“Bad news for him and us. We have a few options. The only natural option in the holding midfielder is probably Alex Tettey. Alex has been out quite a while and not involved with Tom’s good form.

“We have other options to change the formation slightly. Louis Thompson is not prepared for the first team really because he has been out a while.
“We have a few knocks, with Onel Hernandez and Marco Stiepermann, but I think they will be fit. So all in all not too bad.”

The likes of Louis Thompson and Carlton Morris are back in training after longer term injury absences but yet to come back into first team contention.
Thompson will feature for the development squad at Fulham on Friday night.
“We will give him some minutes because we have already decided on the Blackburn squad,” he said. “He has been out for some time so it would not be healthy for him to come into such a key game.
“The most important thing is he gets some minutes for his confidence so he is fully prepared for pre-season. “When you have so many injury problems it is important you find that trust back in your body.
“If we had more injury problems than Tom, then it would be a solution to have him in the squad. But we have had players like Dennis Srbeny, Felix Passlack or Philip Heise or Ivo Pinto who have been able to train without injuries and not played any real football for the first team.”
