Daniel Farke feels his Norwich City players are already legends. Now they must be greedy to land the Championship title.

The Canaries will play in the Premier League next season, after a remarkable promotion triumph, but a point at Aston Villa on Sunday guarantees the trophy is heading to Carrow Road.

Farke gave his troops four days off to savour the epic celebrations, following a win over Blackburn, and he has a taste for more if they can land silverware.

“We know we achieved something special. It has been a unique season and we have made history. We are full of pride,” he said.

“They know they are now legends in the history of Norwich City. It is perhaps not the best preparation for a game to let them celebrate. The perfect way would have been to come in on Sunday to recover and then analyse Aston Villa.

“They needed two or three days off to feel this joy.

“Since they came back they have been in a good mood and they are working in a proper, professional way. Four days should be enough to recover from a hangover. We are highly motivated. We are greedy to win football games.

“I want us to protect this attitude rather than feel we need a point to bring this over the line.

“Promotion was the most important thing but we want to finish in style. It would be a world class achievement to win the league. That is the next topic. The season is not finished. We go to Villa looking to win.”

Sheffield United would overhaul the Canaries if they lose at Villa Park and the Blades win at Stoke City on Sunday. Farke revealed in the build up Chris Wilder was quick to congratulate him on his squad’s promotion. The duo have had some epic tussles since Farke arrived from Germany and will continue that jousting in the top flight next season.

“He was very respectful and sent me a message after promotion. I then sent one back after they were promoted because he has done a fantastic job,” said the City head coach.

“When you are there after 45 games and able to celebrate promotion then without any doubt it is totally deserved.

“Like I said, quality is defined over a longer term period and this is exactly what Chris has done.

“I can only send him applause and praise. I congratulate him and his staff and his players.”
