Daniel Farke saw enough from Norwich City’s shadow men to rule out a dip into the free agent market to ease the Canaries’ chronic injury list.

The City chief was without eight senior players last weekend but still plotted a superb 3-2 Premier League win over Manchester City.

Farke faces the same selection headache this weekend, ahead of the trip to Burnley, particularly in defence. Ibrahim Amadou was pressed into emergency service against the champions with Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann out longer term and Grant Hanley still on the comeback trail.

Sam Byram also came in for his full debut once it emerged Max Aarons (ankle) was sidelined until the next international break.

Norwich could bring in a free agent outside the normal transfer window cycle, but Farke and sporting director Stuart Webber will instead put their faith in the existing personnel.

"I would never say no. In this business you have to stay awake. If we could have found the right fit for the squad back in the summer we would have done the business then," said Farke. "Now there is much less options so for that it is tricky to find some quality. You can't just press a button and bring in a defender who delivers immediately. I don't expect anything.

"We won't fall asleep. We will go with what we have got. It makes no sense to panic.

"Ibrahim had to play in this role because we had no other fit defenders. He is a brilliant lad, a great character and a big compliment to Stuart Webber that he could do this business. We hope he can go on with these performances.

"We have many longer term injuries to defensive players so it was good he was able to deliver. Sam Byram, first time in a yellow shirt from the start and up against one of the best wingers in the world. He played fantastic."

Farke's players delivered but the head coach was also hailed for his tactical masterplan to get the better of Pep Guardiola, who was full of praise for City's 'brave' approach.

"We had a pretty long chat after the game. I can only give the warm words back. He has won so many titles and for me he is a genius. A world class coach," said Farke. "From here on, all the fingers are crossed for him, also for Jurgen (Klopp), who is a world class coach. I am happy to win some points against Pep.

"Either you press them high or you have to be unbelievably solid sitting a bit deeper. If you try to play a midfield press against them you have no chance - to find a good balance and press high. Emi (Buendia) was there with a top class performer.

"I would have preferred more possession in the second half. That was down to Manchester City as much as our situation. It is not possible to dominate possession with our usual average but we were able to still create moments and chances."
