Daniel Farke admitted Norwich City’s return to the top of the Championship after Wednesday’s 3-2 win against Hull City was the perfect way to celebrate his new Carrow Road contract.

Farke’s fresh deal, keeping him with the Canaries until 2022, was announced before a hard-fought victory that moved City two points clear of Leeds at the top.

“Yes I am a happy man,” he said. “To be honest before the game I was a bit concerned about this announcement.

“I didn’t want it to be the Daniel Farke celebration day. I wanted us to be really focused on this game but after a win and a good atmosphere I am over the moon.

“It wasn’t about winning because Leeds and Sheffield had won the day before. We were greedy to add another home win and make it 27 points from 10 games because we know this is a crunch period and each and every point matters.

“We knew from the first game how well organised and well structured Hull can be and how difficult it is to create chances. We needed to start on the front foot and get the intensity up. I can’t praise the lads enough.”

Emi Buendia scored twice, and produced an outrageous flick in the build up to his match-clinching finish, to cap another vibrant display from the midfielder.

“He was crucial. It was some brilliant play,” said Farke. “The whole workload is important. With him it is important he is focused on the game, and making his game look simple. When he plays like that it looks simple. To do what he does in the opponent’s half is allowed.

“He can produce these magical touches and he is a player who has this freedom and ability to create some magic moments.

“Thankfully he was there with some brilliant scenes. The third goal was outstanding after a beautiful flick on. My feeling was Teemu Pukki should have scored but he was not focused on that situation and it was a calm, composed finish from Emi.

“That is a sign of class. The result is ridiculous. “It should have been a 7-1 but we made one mistake in each half, a naïve mistake right before half-time and I was pretty annoyed. But I was also happy how we reacted because such a mistake can kill the nerves and change the momentum.

“We scored the third and then had another mistake in the 87th minute, and Hull punished us.

“Then we had to defend the added time. We will speak about the mistake before half-time because I would prefer a clean sheet and the game is done by 60 minutes and we can then calm down the load.”
